What To Do After You Sustain a Fire in your Fairfield County Residence

6/12/2017 (Permalink)

Soot contaminated HVAC filter.

After any fire damage situation, your primary focus should be safety first:

  • Is it safe to stay in the house?
  • Electrical and "slip and fall" hazards are some of the most prevalent concerns.
  • Only do activities that are safe for you to perform.
  • Wet materials can be VERY heavy. Be careful!

If you have central air (HVAC) system the unit should be turned off to prevent further soot contamination. Soot is very corrosive and even if you believe the soot contamination is minimal, preventing further damage should be top priority. The HVAC system can distribute the soot into rooms that were previously unaffected by the initial fire. Once our technicians arrive onsite we immediately inspect the unit to determine if any soot has penetrated into the system. Our crews are trained in HVAC system cleaning and deodorizing after water, fire or mold emergencies. HVAC systems are routinely overlooked after a fire damage emergency however SERVPRO of Danbury/Ridgefield has the experience to properly identify and clean fire damage.
